Crisis help

For you, the adult supporting a teenager.

If your teen, or you, are in danger right now, call emergency services or go to the nearest emergency room.

While help is on the way

  • Stay close. Don't leave them alone.
  • Put medications, weapons and anything they could use to hurt themselves out of reach.
  • If they took something: keep the container and do not make them vomit.
  • Say little, and say it calmly. This is not the time to ask why or to argue.
  • If you can, ask another adult to be with you.
  • If they take any medication, have the name on hand.

And afterward, for you

Supporting someone through a crisis is frightening and exhausting. Once the urgent part has passed, make sure you have someone to talk to, too.
