When the school uses RMU

What the school works on with a class can be supported at home.

What the school does with RMU

The school listens to each class with a short, anonymous questionnaire about how students feel, how they relate to others and how they make decisions.

With what it hears, it chooses what to work on with that class in workshops. The work is always with the group.

What the school sees, and what it doesn't

  • It sees summaries by class, never one student's answers.
  • No one, neither the school nor RMU, can know what your teen answered.
  • It doesn't diagnose, grade or label.
  • The school sees nothing of what you do in RMU Families.

Taking part is voluntary. If you have questions about the questionnaire, the school is the one that can answer them.

The five areas, at home

RMU works with five areas. You don't need to know which one your teen's class is working on to support it: you can start with the one that has most to do with what's going on at home right now. If you want to know, ask the school.

Knowing myself

Recognizing what I feel and understanding what's going on with me.

At home

It helps to ask and to know how to wait, without interpreting for your teen or playing down what they feel.

Managing what I feel

Choosing what I do with what I feel: stopping, calming down, holding steady.

At home

It helps not to talk in the middle of the anger, to let the moment pass, and to show how you calm yourself down.

Seeing others

Noticing what's going on with other people and putting myself in their place.

At home

It helps to name what you see without lecturing, and to talk about what other people go through, starting from stories, shows or situations close to home.

Connecting

Building relationships of trust, asking for help and working out disagreements.

At home

It helps for your teen to know which adults they can turn to, not to solve their conflicts for them, and not to leave out what happens on social media.

Deciding

Thinking before I act, taking care of myself and saying no when something isn't good for me.

At home

It helps to talk before forbidding, to think through real situations together, and to make it clear they can call you if things get complicated.

If something worries you

This page goes along with the group's work. If what worries you is your teen in particular, see When and how to get help.
